Useful but not essential
Useful bit of kit. It dries out & then crumbles any food waste down into flakes. I wouldn't recommend putting them directly into the garden, as the first shower of rain rehydrates it into a weird brown goop, but it's great for mashing down the stuff that would otherwise attract vermin, and i put it in my big compost bin along with any garden trimmings, etc. It can safely digest bits of old cat food for example. I keep the main unit in the porch, because it is big, and then the inner bucket stays in the kitchen until it's full, the carbon-filtered lid seems to keep on top of any smells. It's reasonably quiet when in use, mostly humming & clicking to itself. Oh, and if you've been cutting hair, don't put the trimmings in, because it just sort of blow dries them into a massive bouffant which then frightens the life from you when you open the lid (ask me how I know)

Still early days but good so far
Obviously large unit and takes a long time to run but that was obvious from the description. I was a bit disappointed that it's a much lighter grey than pictured, all pictures it either looks black or dark graphite and it's much lighter in person. However it does work exactly as I'd hoped, takes our food waste and breaks it down to an odourless, soil like product which I can add to my outdoor compost bin without filling it up too quickly with too much green waste. One bizarre thing is that in the booklet it says not to use the soil material for at least 90 days to avoid hazard to health - not sure what hazard it could pose exactly so it did make me a bit worried but as I'm adding to compost heap anyway it's fine in our case.

Failed to work out of box. Zero response from Sage or Amazon customer support
The media could not be loaded. Amazon are a great retailer I have used for many years. Sage are a highly rated supplier electric kitchen tools, distributed by Breville a well known 'quality' brand. I received the purchase promptly. The packaging was complete and undamaged.Saved up a few days waste and tried to use the foodcycler. Followed all the instructions properly. The foodcycler initiated itself in ways not described int he manual and failed to operate. Followed reset instructions (many times), still failed to operate. Virtually no troubleshooting instructions in manual, none online. Was only able to determine that the foodcycler was definitely not working at start-up as designed by watching YouTube video of someone using it.Problem solving attempts included resets, leaving it in both the 'lighting' modes for several hours.Sent help requests to Amazon through the normal customer service channel.Registered foodcycler with Sage's UK distributor Breville, and submitted problem report to them. After two working-days, neither party has responded.I will say one thing in its favor: the carbon filter lid on the bucket cover did a marvelous job at preventing smells. The rest of it, is a three hundred and forty pound box of trash - probably go straight to landfill and prevent any carbon/waist offset I hoped to achieve. Will update is either party condescends to respond with anything helpful.

Painted interior has scratched and chipped
Very concerned about the material from the inside which has all flaked off, of this is then going into the compost and then into the soil, is it toxic? Disappointed in the quality for what I paid, and that sometimes it need run twice to fully break down food. The bucket needs a total redesign to not flake off like this.

Not impressed
Not impressed at all, the supposedly tough coated bucket has totally scratched down to metal upon first use by the grinder despite only soft foods being in there.Doesn’t grind down particularly well and has needed a second go to get to a decent state.Wouldn’t recommend buying as the amount you get as a result is so minimal it will take ages to get a decent amount of compost from it.I’ve wasted my money unfortunately
