These Sponge filters are great for small aquarium and provide both mechanical and biological filtration for your tank. They contain a ton of surface area for beneficial bacteria to colonize. The bacteria helps break down harmful waste such ammonia and nitrite. Operated by an air pump, they create minute bubbles to increase oxygen content in water. This sponge filter does not trap fish fry and are safe for small size fish like dwarf cichlid, guppy, killifish, etc. They are useful for as breeding filter or as secondary filter, or they can be used as pre-filtration unit by fitting to an external or a top filter. (Note: Air pump and airline tubing sold separately). Maintenance: Rinse the sponge 2-3 times every month with running water.
