Needed for descaling.
This was missing from my machine and I descaled it without one and the water did splash a bit. I bought this before my next descaled and no splashing. You just pop it in the holder where you put the capsules and run the descaled, (instructions are on line if you've lost yours). I think it's good value as it stopped the splashing and was cheap to buy.

This small piece of plastic is essential to de-scale your Dolce Gusto coffee machine. I can't remember if one came with the machine originaly, if it did, it went into "that" drawer, never to be seen again, so this was the best purchase that week!
