I would say not for use with wood. Even though it is made of steel, it is not a file or rasp. Stick with fruits and vegetables. You have to be very careful using it though because if you slip, it will do a number on fingers as well.

Q: Remove the protective plastic protector how? Both ends have tabs with one partly broken as received. Can't slide off.

It just pops off. Dose not slide. First time hard but clicks back in.
