works well good price
I bought this just to try this style of brewing, one thing to note is the inner tray/screen is on a screw to the bottom of the unit, dont try to pull it out it has to unscrew/spin off. its nicely made and works as designed.

Recommended by a Vietnamese friend
I was recently given some Vietnamese Robusta coffee by a friend who got it from home. This is the Phin filter he uses; this larger size allows him to brew larger batches for cold coffee drinks. He advised me to screw down the inner top to the filter tightly, more than the manufacture recommends. Even though it takes longer to brew this way, the results are worth it, yielding a thick, rich, velvety texture to Vietnamese coffee.About this particular product - it's solidly made and the price point is very reasonable. It does a great job making traditional Vietnamese coffee. The instructions are very well written and easy to follow. My friend advised using more coffee, filling to roughly half the chamber, but that makes it harder to screw down the top of the filter. I like having the cork handles, but that means the main chamber can't go in the dishwasher. Coffee brewed this way leaves a fair bit of oil, so get the dishwasher safe handle if you're not down for hand washing. This thing really conducts heat, so be very careful if you want to take off the top lid while it's brewing! If you buy ground coffee from Vietnam it should work perfectly. If you grind yourself, you want a very fine grind like for Aeropress or a Moka Pot. It should be just a touch more coarse than an espresso grind. If you buy pre-ground coffee at an American grocery store, Cafe Bustelo would probably work best as they grind for Moka pot users. Also the flavor profile of Bustelo would be a nice fit to this style of brewing.

The best cup of coffee!
I have been using this for the last two months. It makes a great cup of coffee and great to travel with as it doesn't need a power source.Tips:1. Get the right coffee powder. Get it from the Vietnamese coffee from the asian store. Or Buy beasn at the trader Joes and grind at Espresso setting.2. Use the right creamer. Sweetened condensed milk is the best.3. Tighten the screw to compact the coffee power.4. It should take approx. 15-20 mins to brew it. If too fast, you have the wrong coffee power or coffee powders is not packed enough.5. If coffee doesn't start dripping in a few minutes, lift, and scrap the bottom with a spoon to get it started. You will figure it out.

Nice strong cup of Vietnamese coffee!
I have to admit I initially wrote a terrible review because I thought the disk press was missing. I was furious. I didn't realize it was already in the metal cup. However, the press was very difficult to remove. I even tried using pliers to remove it from the cup but to no prevail. I finally realized you unscrew a knob on the rod to remove it. Ok. I don't get why this is even a feature. I've had Vietnamese coffee makers before and never saw one where you have to screw in the press. It's called a "press" after all. The other issue is that the plate has a small circumference . You need a narrow glass for the plate to fit. I was lucky I had one that barely fit. A normal coffee cup will not work with this.Besides these two issues, this does make a nice strong cup of coffee. I would give 3.75 stars if I could.

Brews an amazing cup of coffee!
As a first time user it took me a few tries to get the screw function to drip at the right pace to brew the coffee to my exact taste but i got it eventually and the coffee tastes exquisite! My method: once you screw down the press to where its (not too firmly) pressed against the coffee, unscrew it just under or at about 180 degrees, with cafe du monde chicory coffee the brew should take about 7-8 minutes. I have the 9.5oz filter and i use 2 tbsp of ground coffee which yields 8-8.5oz of coffee.Of course this might not be the correct method but its the one i prefer!

Small and flimsy
The plate that rests on the cup is small in diameter and won't rest securely on standard sized mugs (or larger). The liquid doesn't flow through the coffee maker very well, and will sometimes get clogged. The screw also broke after about 3 uses.

Vietnamese Coffee
It's a Vietnamese coffee maker. Pretty straight forward. Makes great Vietnamese coffee. I do like that the vendor included a small step by step visual guide for making iced Vietnamese coffee with it.Anyways this coffee maker is good right out of the box. Just give it a quick rinse and remove the sticker and enjoy yourself some great coffee.

Its size 8!!!!!
Seller is misleading. NOT 8 pieces. Very expensive for 1. I would stay away from this.
