Barfly Tapered Ice Pick, Beech Wood

It's more than an ice pick. It's a conversation piece. It's an ice carving knife. It's a knife for cutting garnishes. There's nothing it can't do. This bad boy has held an edge like a champ and hasn't let me down yet. My only complaint, and it's more of a preference, is the unfinished wood handle. As you know, handling ice means water and water is rough on untreated wood. After a while the texture of the handle just became unpleasant. However, the handle never lessened in sturdiness or quality. I lathered it up in some linseed oil and it pretty much resolved the issue. You will find the same issue with the sheath, but it's much less of an issue.

Great tool for creating perfect ice cubes or other shapes from block ice.

This shaves ice well and gets large chunks carved up efficiently. I also like to use the handle as an impromptu hammer in conjunction with a longer serrated knife for splitting large slabs.

The tang of the blade isn't very well fixed in the hilt, but the blade itself is very good at carving ice, which is after all its main purpose! The handle and sheath are both handsome wood as depicted in the photo.

I really wanted to like this, but the quality was very rough. The fit of the blade was very wobbly and rattled in the sheath. The grind and edge of the pick was crude and uneven. I sent it back for a replacement and the second was just as dissappointing.

I like it a lot. I use it to shave off ice so I can have a perfect cube of ice without using a mold.
